Snowden on Dropbox: It’s hostile to privacy

Dropbox is a very popular Cloud storage services, but is it good for the privacy-conscious?

According to Edward Snowden, it’s not.

In an interviewed published on GuardianNews, Snowden described Dropbox as “hostile to privacy.”

So what are the better alternatives. Snowden recommended Cloud storage services with zero-knowledge as a key feature.

An excerpt from the Snowden interview:

Cloud companies need to pursue the zero knowledge system, he said, where they host and process content on behalf of customers without having access to it themselves.

“By depriving themselves of the ability to read the information, of the ability to sort of analyse and manipulate the information without the customers’ consent or authorisation, that’s the only way they can prove to the customers that they can be trusted with their information,” he said.

    Dont put private information that you dont want anyone to see in Cloud Storage. ANY CLOUD STORAGE PERIOD.

    If you absolutely have too, encrpyt the file yourself BEFORE you upload it.
