The latest edition of Kali Linux, Kali Linux 1.0.6, has been released.

Kali Linux is a Linux distribution based on Debian Unstable, and designed for hacking and penetration testing. It comes loaded with the best Free and Open Source (FOSS) hacking applications available.

Kali Linux 1.0 is the successor to BackTrack Linux 5 (see BackTrack 5 or Kali Linux 1.0).

Key features of this latest release are:

  • Integration of a “nuclear option” to LUKS cryptsetup, which I previously wrote about at A Kali Linux cryptsetup patch that can “nuke” an encrypted disk
  • Availability of build scripts for the ARM architecture
  • Availability of build scripts for Amazon AMI and Google Compute Cloud platforms
  • Linux kernel 3.12. The previous edition had kernel 3.7.
