If your PC has an NVIDIA GPU, the NVIDIA App (yes, it’s from the same company that makes those GPUs), is designed to simplify the process of keeping your PC updated with the latest GeForce Game Ready and NVIDIA Studio Drivers, and downloading and installing NVIDIA applications like NVIDIA Broadcast and GeForce NOW.

Unfortunately, it is a Windows-only app, so downloading and installing it in a Linux distro is out of the question, unless you have Wine and related tools installed. Since I’m running Bazzite Linux on one of my computers, I decided to see if I can install it on that distro. For the uninitiated, Bazzite is a Linux distro optimized for gaming out of the box.

So it has WINE and related tools installed, including an application called WineZGUI that makes it easy to install and run Windows apps in Linux.

So I downloaded a copy of NVIDIA App and tried to install it. But the installation failed with the error (“Windows task scheduler should be running to continue. Please start the service and try again”) shown in the image below.

Install NVIDIA App in Linux

Attempt to install NVIDIA App in Linux failed

Unfortunately, Windows task scheduler, as far as I gather, cannot run under Wine, so my attempt to install NVIDIA App failed. Let’s just hope that Jen-Hsun “Jensen” Huang and his crew release a Linux version of NVIDIA App.
