I love the idea behind Chromebooks, but because of the privacy implications of using them, I just admire them from a distance.

However, because of their cheap price and lower cost of maintenance, they’ve been very popular with educational institutions. The problem, is most people are either not aware or don’t care about the privacy implications of using those light and cheap notebooks or other devices running Chrome OS.

For the folks that don’t know and care, the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) has released a Guide to Chromebook Privacy Settings for Students. But it shouldn’t be of interest just to students. If you use a Chromebook or other Chrome OS device, that is a very simple guide that you may use to change the privacy equation in your favor.

You may view the guide here.

Still intended for students, the EFF also published another titled Guide to Google Account Privacy Settings for Students that shows how to shift the privacy equation in your favor if you have a Google account. Again, it’s intended for students, but don’t exclude yourself from using it if you’re not a student.

You may access that guide here.
