Pardus 2011.2, code-named Cervus elaphus, is the latest version of the Linux desktop distribution developed by the Turkish National Research Institute of Electronics and Cryptology (UEKAE), an arm of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK).
Judging from the contents of the Release Notes, Cervus elaphus appears to be more like a bug-fix release than a major update. Whatever it is, bug-fix or major update, here are a few screenshots for your viewing pleasure. A detailed review will be published early next week.
Like the last version, Pardus 2011.1, there are separate installation and Live DVD ISO images for 32- and 64-bit platforms for Pardus 2011.2.
This is a screenshot of the boot menu of a 32-bit installation image. Same as the last version’s.
The time setup step of YALI, Pardus’ beautiful installation program.
The manual disk partitioning phase. Disk encryption is still not supported.
If you did not know it, Pardus is a KDE-based distribution.
But somebody forgot to edit the text in one slide claiming “Pardus 2011.1 is shipped with Firefox 5…” Actually, this is Pardus 2011.2, and sadly, it comes with the same Firefox 5, when the latest version of the popular Web browser is Firefox 6.0.2.
The default desktop. Those, by the way, are a couple of Red Deer, or Cervus elaphus. Couldn’t the person responsible for this shot have found a better angle. What the heck are this pair doing anyway?
A different view of the desktop showing the Lancelot menu, one of three menu styles available for the KDE desktop.
When you get tired of looking at an image of a pair of Red Deer doing God knows what, you can always change the wallpaper.
And since this is a KDE distribution, you can also switch to the KDE Plasma Netbook interface.
This is a shot of the games installed out of the box, viewed from the KDE Plasma Netbook interface.
Me vs the computer, in a game of chess. Guess who lost. You may download an installation ISO image for your computer from here and here, and Live DVD images from here and here.
