Boot Ubuntu with switchable graphics

Asked by: 597 views General, Ubuntu

Hello,

I recently updated my Ubuntu 11.10 100GB partition on my portable hard disk drive (320GB) to 12.04 LTS. However, one common problem I had between the two is that every time I boot to Ubuntu, I have to switch from switchable graphics to integrated graphics in the BIOS. I am using an NVIDIA GEFORCE GT540M GPU with NVIDIA OPTIMUS and 2GB of VRAM.

Would it be possible for me to run Ubuntu without having to go to BIOS each time to switch the graphics?

Specifications:
Intel Core i7-2630QM 2.0GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz
NVIDIA GEFORCE GT540M, up to 3760MB TurboCache
8GB DDR3 RAM
750GB SATA 5400rpm HDD
Windows 7 (Original OS)

Many thanks!
