usb device not seen by computer

Asked by: 591 views Ubuntu

I’m an Amateur Radio Operator. I have a Rigexpert Standard USB Tranceiver interface for audio and radio control that conects between the transmitter and the computer. I’m using a Dell Dimension 3000, 2.8 Ghz Pent 4 with Ubuntu 12.04 lts. Everything that I have pluged into any of the USB ports, will show up except the Rigexpert Interface. I’ve had it plugged in before boot and after and nothing happens, as if I never plugged anything in at all. I have multiple programs that work with this unit, all programs and the interface worked fine w/o problems in win 98 thru win xp, all programs work fine in Ubuntu, the computer will not “see” the USB connection. I’m a rookie at any Ubuntu/Linux command prompt input. I’ve only had Ubuntu for maybe a month, before that all dos / windows. Any help would be awesome.

Thank You

The place to go for this kind of information would be the website for Linux in the Ham Shack – – they seem to attract some competent enthusiasts.

I don’t think there is support for this device in the kernel. You may have to download and install, via Wine, the necessary software from http://www.rigexpert.com/index?f=downloads.

Install Wine first, then install the downloaded application via a Wine graphical interface. Use Ubuntu’s graphical package manager to install Wine.
