Creating an additional partition after installing Ubuntu 11.04

Asked by: 1135 views , , ,
Disk Partition, Ubuntu

To allow taking the plunge from XP to Linux Ubuntu I have installed VMware and run XP under a virtual PC, to avoid loosing costly software.

Securing the installation against my lack of expertise, is done with Redo. To limit the backups size, I want to create an additional partition to retain large data collections that do not require backup and sufficient space is available.

Can you advise how to split the partition in which Ubuntu is stored?

I downloaded 11.04 the 32 bit version ISO from the Ubuntu Site (http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download), burned the CD and installed Ubuntu, which completely fromatted the harddisk.
Hopefully this answers your question as I do not know whether this is the Graphical or Alternate installer Edition. I assume this is the Graphical version.

How did you install Ubuntu? Using the edition that supports LVM, that is, the Alternate Installer edition, or using the graphical installer edition?
