How to encrypt a file in ubuntu 11.04

I am running Ubuntu 11.04 on a Toshiba laptop, and during the installing of Ubuntu, I enabled the option to encrypt my home directory. Now that I have Ubuntu running, I do not see any evidence that my files are encrypted.

So my question is, how can I encrypt my files in Ubuntu 11.04? Are there better options for encrypting my home directory in Ubuntu 11.04?
