Does FreeNAS support Linux Logical Volume Management (LVM)?

Asked by: 1650 views , , ,
FreeNAS, Openfiler

I am currently using Openfiler, but with the current state of affairs of the project, I’ve been trying to see if FreeNAS will meet my needs, one of which is LVM. Could someone please tell me whether FreeNAS supports  LVM?

FreeNAS does not support LVM, but it has something better than LVM, and that is ZFS, a file system supported by all FreeBSD based distributions.

ZFS is the same file system on Solaris, and it knocks the socks off LVM. If you are looking for a free alternative to Openfiler, I think FreenNAS should fit the bill.

ZFS is also available on Linux, though not in the main line kernel. And yes, it “knocks the socks off LVM,” and any other file system available on Linux.

Nope. FreeNAS is based on FreeBSD, which has nothing to do with LVM.
