Chakra update

Posted by on June 13, 2011 0 Comments Category : Distro Updates Tags :

Chakra is a Linux distribution I recently reviewed (see Chakra GNU/Linux review). I have also written a tutorial on GPT partitioning on it here. An update has just been released and the lead developer emailed with the following:

Again thx for your great review of Aida. Now we released the first respin of it. Most of your mentioned bugs got fixed with this release.
….

We updated to KDE 4.6.4, added a new icon-theme, LibreOffice got enhanced and is now 3.4.0, Tribe got lots of bugfixes and will support LVM, encrypted partitions, raid and other great stuff with the yet not released 2011.09.

The image is not based on larch8 anymore. I switched to my own Chakra-Live which was based on archiso but is now forked with extra features the original don’t has.

Akabei our new package management got heavy developed and will be introduced in Oktober 2011 for the 2012.03 release.

Our Developer-Team has doubled now so more people will spin on Chakra now.

Have a nice week.

It’s nice to know that some distro developers do read and take suggestions in stride. LVM, the Linux Logical Volume Management and disk encryption are two features I always look for in a distribution, and I’m glad that they will be coming to Chakra soon. Meanwhile, check back soon for an updated review of Chakra on the main site.
