Linux kernels and External monitors
Asked by: joecar
Why would my laptop computer recently upgraded to natty 11.04 run an external samsung lcd monitor perfectly in "natty unity" on Kernel 2.6.35-29, but crash "black screen on both laptop and samsung monitor"
when I boot the computer using kernel 2.6.38-9 generic.
If I disconnect the external monitor the computer runs unity on the laptop screen on the newer kernel with no problems.
I have tried the classic menu and it makes no difference.
Is it feasible to copy the xrandr settings file from the computer to an external location and overwrite this file when i run the computer on the new kernel.
I have posted questions asking for help setting up my external monitor on Ubuntu forum and reported this bug on launchpad, but I am not getting any help.
Is there any way to find out if anyone has successfully set up a duel monitor using the same hardware as me.
computer is Fujitsu AH530 i3 with Intel graphics.
Am I correct in assuming that this problem with duel monitors is not just settings problems but a known defect in "Natty"
