Dual-booting Windows 7 and Linux Mint 10 on external hard disk.

Dual-booting

I'm attempting to install Windows 7 on an external hard disk connected to the PC via USB in the hope of installing Linux Mint alongside it, but the disk is greyed out in the Windows installer. Is this possible?

It is not possible. You cannot install Windows 7 on an external hard disk. According to the installer, you cannot install Windows to disks connected through a USB or IEEE 1394 port.
