Of Ubuntu and Mint, which is better?

I'm trying to install Linux on my home computer, but not sure which one to install. It seems like Ubuntu and Linux are the top two. Which one should I choose?

I'm looking for something that works just like Windows. Thanks

This should be a new question on its own.

To answer your question, yes. I think there is some difference between XP’s and Windows 7′s boot programs, but it should work.

I want to install Ubuntu 10.10 onto a seperate hard drive which has XP Home on the C drive. Can I use the procedure you have posted which demonstrates this requirement but specifies Windows 7 on the C Drive

I use Linux Mint 8 Helena on my computer. http://www.linuxmint.com
I would recommend install Linux Mint 10 of some version that you like.

I also use and recommend PuppyLinux in the frugal install method that is compatible with an existing windows installation. You don\’t have to repartition your drive. http://www.puppylinux.org & http://www.puppylinux.com. Download the April 1 2011 Lucid Puppy 5.2.5 version lupu525.iso (130 Megabyte) file. Burn .iso image file to CD disk at slow 4x or 8x speed to burn a good exact copy. Boot you Windows Computer with the Lupu 5.2.5 CD in the CD drive and perform a frugal install. Now you can play with PuppyLinux learning as you go. Then boot back into windows, when you need to use existing software that you are comfortable with. PuppyLinux is very friendly. They have a great Forum and a good IRC chat channel on irc.freenode channel #puppylinux

Good Luck in your selection and welcome to choice and stability you have with Linux.

    Fred

Just so you know, Mint is based on Ubuntu. I prefer Mint, but they both have their pros and cons. See a comparison of older editions at http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2010/01/16/linux-mint-8-vs-ubuntu-9-10/
