Gameplay 1.2, open source game development framework, released

Gameplay

Gameplay 1.2, a cross-platform, C++ game framework designed for learning and writing mobile and desktop games, has been released.

Gameplay is an open source project hosted on Github and developed by Sean Paul and Steve Grenier, both graphics and game developers at Research In Motion, maker of the BlackBerry® smartphone and PlayBook tablet computer.

Aside from the BlackBerry platform, Gameplay is also available for Android, iOS and Windows, and currently features mouse, keyboard and touch input; OpenGL 3.2+ and OpenGL ES 2.0-based rendering; efficient font and sprite classes; scene, node, light, camera and model Scene-graph components; 3D audio system with support for compressed audio HDMI gaming, plus a lot more.
Gameplay

With this latest release comes the following additions:

  • Support for BlackBerry Tablet OS 2.0 and BlackBerry 10
  • Support for Apple iOS 5.1 for iPhone and iPad and MacOS X
  • Support for Google Android 2.3+
  • Support for Microsoft Windows 7
  • Improved animation system
