Sabayon 8 KDE Firewall

Another minor issue with the graphical package manager, is that in the interface color tab of the settings tool, the color configuration button labeled “Package not installed” actually applies or affects installed packages, rather than those not installed.

Thanks to the features it inherited from Anaconda, an installation program with all the physical security features you expect on a modern installer, Sabayon’s installer provides all the features you need to install a system with an excellent physical security posture – full disk encryption and boot loader password protection. And on the network security front, the firewall is enabled and a graphical firewall application to manage the firewall is installed and configured out of the box. This screen shot shows the graphical firewall application in its default state.

Final Thoughts: The KDE edition of Sabayon was on my list of the best KDE distributions of 2011. While I do not think that is going to change this year, I would like to see packages for Takeoff Launcher, Stackfolder and Quick Access available for installation. With either Takeoff Launcher and Stackfolder or Takeoff Launcher and Quick Access, you can transform Sabayon or any KDE installation into a much better desktop operating system than the default installation.

Resources: To download 32- and 64-bit versions of Sabayon 8 KDE and other Sabayon 8 editions, find a mirror closest to your neck of the woods here. Questions may be posted to the Sabayon forums here, and at Questions and Answers.

Razor-qt, a new desktop environment that is usable, but not quite ready for prime time, is in Sabayon’s repository. This screen shot shows the desktop using Razor-qt.

Sabayon is one of my favorite distros, Fabio is doing great work, I think more people should give sabayon a try, it’s not that harder than ubuntu or mint. I’m using the xfce edition and it works great – network, surround sound, nvidia video – everything works perfectly. The only thing i don’t like is the memory usage, but anyway, sabayon is one of the best distros out there and given the fact that there isn’t a rich corporation behind it- it speaks well about its developers.
Cheers from Bulgaria !

Thank you for the review, and in particular for spotting the interface color issue in Sulfur. I opened a bug report about it: https://bugs.sabayon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3032, I hope Fabio can have a look at it and solve.

I’ve installed Sabayon-8 on one of my hard drives and am very impressed. Everything I wanted it to do, was done out of the box.
