Pardus 2011.1 screenshot pre-review

Pardus Kaptan 2011.1

Pardus is a desktop-oriented Linux distribution with roots in the National Research Institute of Electronics and Cryptology (UEKAE), Turkey. The latest table version, Pardus 2011.1, was released just yesterday.

Like Pardus 2011, Pardus 2011.1 is made available via DVD installation images, and also via Live DVD testing-only images. While a review is still in the works, here a few screenshots to whet your appetite.

This is the boot menu from a DVD installation image. New to Pardus 2011.1 is a “Rescue System” option.

YALI is the moniker for the installation program on Pardus. This one is from the time settings step.

And these are the available partitioning methods.

As with every distribution, GRUB, the boot loader, may be installed in the Master Boot Record (MBR), the default location, or in any other suitable location.

The partitioning tool has support for LVM, the Linux Logical Volume Manager, and RAID. Disk encryption is not supported. When will YALI get support for disk encryption?

Kaptan is the welcome application on Pardus. It is the best of its kind, and it is the first application that will start in the Live DVD testing desktop, and also on a real installation.

Kaptan allows you to choose from one of three menu styles. The Kickoff style is the default.

This is a screenshot of the desktop using the Lancelot menu. By the way, the code name for Pardus 2011.1 is Dama dama, the Fallow Deer. And that is a headshot of a female Dama dama.

Another view of a Pardus 2011.1 desktop. That’s all. Next will be a detailed review, which should be published soon. Installation and Live images are available for download here.
